Inslee signs the bill

Gov. Jay Inslee signed the bill shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Inslee called it a “sensible, common sense and effective policy” providing a bridge between accountability and treatment.

Five Democratic lawmakers – House Speaker Laurie Jinkins, D-Tacoma, Senate Majority Leader Andy Billig, D-Spokane, Sen. June Robinson, D-Everett, who was the bill’s prime sponsor, Rep. Roger Goodman, D-Kirkland and Rep. Jamila Taylor, D-Federal Way – joined him for the signing. 

No Republicans participated.
